Thomas Martin, LAc began studying Oriental Medicine in 1988 in London. In 1991 he completed the first full-time traditional acupuncture program approved by the New Zealand Register Of Acupuncturists at the Auckland College Of Acupuncture. He also has a master’s degree in Sociology.
He is certified with The National Committee For Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and licensed through the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners.
He is a senior acupuncturist (since 1994) at The Immune Enhancement Program in Portland which specializes in chronic disorders such as HIV, Complementary Cancer Care, Hepatitis C, MS as well as autoimmune disorders and pain conditions where clients who are undergoing standard medical treatment elsewhere are treated with acupuncture, supplements, herbal medicine and massage. This work has resulted in a greater breadth of experience than is currently usual for a licensed acupuncturist.
In addition, since 2000 he has provided acupuncture services at The Oregon City Wellness and Family Medicine Clinic, a facility like Integrative Primary Care Associates dedicated to working toward an integrative medicine model.
In the past he has provided acupuncture services at a substance abuse clinic and to inmates at local jails.
His professional interest for some time has been the reconfiguration of traditional acupuncture into contemporary scientific understanding and its integration into modern medicine especially but not limited to the treatment of pain.
His other long-term natural medicine interests (in addition to medical herbology and acupuncture) are targeted nutrition, plant based diet and mind-body training through yoga and meditation.
